Differences between results as reported by the CEE and results presented
in this space
Votes cast for other candidates in the write-in column, blank ballots and
void ballots are shown separately in the 1996 general election results available
in this space, whereas in the CEE canvass reports the Others category
represents the combined total of write-in, blank and void ballots.
As in the CEE canvass reports, the vote percentages included in the 1996
general election results for elective offices published in this space were
computed over the total sum of votes obtained by the candidates of the New
Progressive Party (PNP), the Popular Democratic Party (PPD), and the Puerto
Rican Independence Party (PIP), plus the votes obtained by other candidates,
and blank and void ballots. This method differs from the one used by the
CEE on previous elections, which did not take into account blank or void
ballots to compute the vote percentage obtained by each candidacy.
